Gritton/Tozer perform the whole cycle in the original keys. Larin and Bedi transpose the lower pitched songs up a third. Del Grande transposes some songs down, a task that over-stretches the pianist.

Schwarzkopf/Medtner recordings

† EMI Composers in Person (1993): includes songs by Slobodskaya/Medtner and Makushina/Medtner, the Russian Round-dance by Moiseiwitch/Medtner and some of the Fairy Tales

‡ The Elisabeth Schwarzkopf Songbook (1996): a 3cd compilation with her 14 Medtner songs and numerous transfers of works by other composers

The EMI Composers in Person CD was for many years only available secondhand, but it is now available from ArkivMusic, and from EMI in a Composers in Person boxed set of 22 CDs. mp3 transfers of all Medtner's recordings of the songs can be downloaded from this site. These transfers are of higher quality than the tracks on the Karadar site.

Makushina/Medtner made unpublished recordings of no. 3 for Columbia in 1931 and for HMV in 1947.

Asawa counterten recorded nos. 2 & 5 with orchestral accompaniment in 1997 CD RCA 68903 - nla, BMG BVCC-31006 - nla

The 1959 Collected Edition has numerous additional dynamic and expressive markings. There are also some significant detail alterations to the piano accompaniments in songs 1 and 4, and a couple of changes to the vocal part in songs 3 and 5.
